Brittny & Bob | Pre-Deployment Session | Couples Photography Charlottesville

While in Ohio visiting family over the holidays I had the opportunity to photograph this great pre-deployment portrait session for Bob and Brittny. Bob, or Bobby as I am so used to calling him, is my nephew. I had the privilege of seeing him grow up through the years into the great person he is today. He is in the Marines and currently stationed at Camp Lejeune, NC.

He also got to come home for the holidays and spend time with his family and girlfriend, Brittny. We did their session on a beautiful winter day at Mill Creek Park in Youngstown, Ohio. The Park offered a very scenic and quiet place where the two of them and myself were able to relax and have fun taking these photos. Bob & Brittny are a terrific couple as you can tell by the photos they really make each other happy.

Bob is scheduled for his second deployment to Afghanistan this coming April. He is currently working with and training a bomb-sniffing dog on base. It was truly an honor to take these for Bob and Brittny and the least I could do to thank him for his service to our country.

Majority of these images were shot on Fuji Pro 400h and developed and scanned by Richard Photo Lab.

Kay - WOW, what a small world! My husband is also stationed at Camp Lejeune and leaving in April. A friend of mine offered to do free pre-deployment pictures and a quick Google search led me here for inspiration. These are some of the exact same locations we got our engagement pictures done before we moved from Youngstown to Lejeune! Mill Creek Park is still our very favorite place in the world, even with the Atlantic 20 minutes from our house :) Tell your nephew to stay safe, and his girlfriend that there is a huge community of other women who know what she’s going through if she needs some emotional support.

But more to the point- these are AMAZING pictures and I definitely got the inspiration I was looking for :)

Styled shoot for Amore Events by Cody in Barboursville, Virginia

I recently met Cody who is a wedding and event planner at Amore Events by Cody.  She specializes in day of coordination and full wedding planning services. If you are planning a wedding I would highly suggest you check out her services!

Cody along with Jeff Gleason planned out a styled shoot to showcase some of the fantastic vintage items she has to offer to brides on their wedding day. I was offered to take part in the shoot and happily obliged to help out. The setting was Pico Hill Farm in Barbousville, Virginia. We were also lucky enough to catch a great sunset which looked amazing on the lake. Featured in this post are some of the items she has to offer including vintage dinner plates, silverware, jars, white milk glass, luggage, custom cocktail stirrers, and so many other unique whimsical items. Here are some of the images I captured for Cody to help showcase her products and services!

Sights around Downtown Charlottesville Virginia

I recently went out casually taking photographs with Cabe Bowman around downtown Charlottesville, VA. It was a beautiful day so we decided to just go out and burn some film. These were some of the images I captured that afternoon. All photos were taken with a Contax 645 and Kodak T-Max 100 film. I had the images developed at Pro Camera in Charlottesville and I scanned the negatives myself with an Epson V750 scanner. Enjoy!

Photo retrospect | My five favorite photos from 2011

Happy New Years!!

A friend of mine did a blog post of his five favorite photos that he took during the year and asked others to participate as well. I thought it was a great idea and a great way to look back on previous years and track progress.  I suppose this become be a good annual blog post for me.  Here are my personal top five images I took in 2001.

#5 Bicycle & Chair

Contax 645

This photography made it into my top five because it was one of the first images taken with my Contax 645. It was taken while walking around Downtown Charlottesville with my friend and fellow Contax shooter Frank Guzzone. It is a bit different from my usual photographic examples but that is another reason I am so find of it. I really like the composition and simplicity of this timeless shot. In 2012, I plan to introduce more film in my shoots.

#4 Sparkler Exit at Veritas Winery

Sparkler Exit

This was shot while second shooting with Aaron Watson Photography at Veritas Winery this past Spring. I followed the bride and groom out the venue on their way to their limo while Aaron photographed them from the front. This particular shot was different from the rest I took during their exit because I happend to take this at the exact moment a flash went off in front of the groom creating a bright blue glow in the haze of sparkler smoke. Chalk this one up to pure skill….I mean luck.:)

#3 Window Looker

Charlottesville fashion photogrpahy

This photo of Jenna W. was taken in a building under renovation in downtown Charlottesville this past summer. This was shot with available light and a reflector for some fill light. I was really pleased with the outcome of this whole series. This series was inspired by David Yurman advertisements as well as some black & white Kate Moss photos.

#2 Sonnie’s Yellow Pickup

bikini model inside truck

This photo was taken during a fashion shoot over the summer. Like the previous photo, this was also shot using available light and I used a little hand held reflector for some fill.  I had fun exploring different angles and way to have the model work with the truck rather than the typical shots you see in car magazines. I love the angle, the colors and how they coordinate, and the fun playful feel of the photo. This was an easy pick for me. After all, whats not to love about a photo of a classic toy truck with a bikini model in it?

#1 Study Buddies

charlottesville engagement photographer

This was taken during a recent engagement shoot. The couple attended UVa together and spent a lot of time together studying in Alderman stacks. We did the engagement photos around various spots on University grounds and finished the shoot in Alderman Stacks. This photo sticks out to me for many reasons. One is that the location is unique and has significant meaning to the couple. The other thing I like is the amount of emotion that is shown in the photo. Since I shot this through book stacks, they were able to have a moment to themselves and I was able to capture that without being right in front of them. I feel like this photo captures the scene perfectly from the perspective of  passerby walking down a line of books.

That was my top 5 of 2011! I hope you enjoyed them and I look forward to an exciting 2012!
